Introduction of Database

databaseDatabase is a set / collection of a complete operational data from an organization / company that is managed and stored in an integrated way by using a specific method to use a computer so as to provide the information necessary optimal wearer.

Basic components of database systems :

  • Data, Data in a database can be stored in an integrated and data can be used together.
  • Hardware, consisting of all the computer equipment used for the management of database systems, such as:
    – Equipment for storage of the data base, the secondary storage
    – Input and output devices
    – Data communication equipment
  • Software, Functioning as an interface between a user with physical data in the database.
  • User or users, user database is divided into three classifications, namely:
    • Database Administrator (DBA)
      person or team in charge of managing database system as a whole.
    • Programmer
      person or team in charge of making the application program.
    • End Users
      who access the database via the terminal with using a query language or program application made by programmer.

Database System Advantages :

  • Reduce data redundancy, ie the same data stored in data files that are different, so updates are performed repeatedly.
  • Prevent inconsistencies.
  • Data security can be maintained, which can be protected from unauthorized users.
  • Data integrity can be maintained
  • Data can be used together
  • Provides recovery
  • Facilitate the application of standardization
  • Data independence

Disadvantages Database System :

  • Plenty of storage space required
  • Skilled labor required to manage data
  • Expensive software
  • Damage in the database system can affect the departments concerned.
